The Mount Dandenong Tourist Road begins in Ferntree Gully from the Burwood Highway.   The length of the road is approximately 20 kms through the Dandenong Ranges.

Carried by birds, English Ivy (Hedera Helix) started its invasion at a few small places along the road.   Over the last ten years it has exploded to cover more than half of the length of the road and has spread into the forest.

Along with the grounds of The Cuckoo Restaurant and the pine trees beside Sassafras Hall, one of the first, and longest established areas, is Tremont where the invasive ivy has spread to eucalypts, tree ferns and other indigenous trees.  It has spread in every direction and has headed to the top of the trees.
